I would have never guessed that the Chicago area had over 20 lowrider clubs. If you grew up in the city of Chicago you already know it is known as a city of neighborhoods or cities within one large city. You can grow up here and have a totally different upbringing and outlook than someone who grew up only blocks from you. In the case of lowriders, you will find that many Southside locals didn’t even know there were lowrider clubs in their neighborhood.
Most lowrider clubs in the Chicago area seem to be located in the Southwest to Southeast neighborhoods and suburbs. The most popular club so far is the Amistad Car Club. Amistad means friends in Spanish and you’ll find Amistad and all their friends parading their lowriders on the main strips of Cicero, Illinois.
What makes Amistad and a few other lowrider clubs uniquely different than the West coast clubs is that it has a homegrown flavor that started off as bicycle clubs which happens to still be popular in certain Chicago neighborhoods like Humboldt Park.
As you’ll see in this video below, lowriding is a family affair in Chicago. Individuals need not apply because the level of detail and dedication it takes to produce a Chicago lowrider is phenomenal.
